Ulcinj, Montenegro

When we are talking about beaches, Ulcinj with the surroundings is recognized even outside the borders of Montenegro. It has characteristic very long and beautiful beaches with the unique petty sand a lot like flour. The coast of Ulcinj is 32, 72 km long, of which 18,10km are beaches. The most beautiful and the largest are sandy beaches of 14, 40 km length. Among numerous beaches (there are about 25 of them), with its beauty, size and the surrounding ambience only sandy beaches: Velika plaza (The Big beach), Mala plaza (The Small beach), Ada Bojana, as well as the beaches Borove sume (The Pine forests) and Valdanos stand out.

Ulcinj is above all visited because of the sun, sea, and sandy beaches as many visitors have pointed out that those are “God given beaches” made out of the pettiest grains of grayish and warm sand. Warm, clear and transparent sea whose transparency of 56 meters, measured in Ulcinj, is the biggest on the Adriatic Sea, with mild coastal climate, are an irresistible motif for every tourist.

It is known that, when we are talking about the climate, because of the very few tropical days, Ulcinj is the most coveted town for the vacation on the Montenegrin coast. The highest measured temperature of air in the summer reaches 38 C o while the average temperature is 25, 2 C o . During the summer months sun heats up to 11.5 hours a day. Sunbathing and swimming season last almost 6 months (from May to October)

Those who have visited beaches of Ulcinj, and who have stayed faithful to them for years, by stating their expressions, say how the staying on those beaches is a real experience of “heaven on Earth”. That it is indeed like that, confirms the nature which surrounds the beaches of Ulcinj: petty sand, warm sea – azure blue, reed, wooden houses or just some raft restaurant in the style of Robinson Crusoe, the sun and the silence which is sporadically interrupted by a whir of the waves.

Numerous foreign tourists come back to Ulcinj from year to year. Especially is a big number of those who have their vacations in the mouth of the River Bojana, on a beach with petty sand, spending their summer vacation as they themselves have told “in the costumes of Adam and Eve”, truly experiencing a new encounter with the Mother Nature. There are those tourists who choose beaches of Ulcinj because, as they say, the area in which Ulcinj is situated “brings them back the energy and the forgotten emotions”.

There almost does not exist a tourist who has spent his vacation in Ulcinj and that hasn't visited the Ulcinj`s Big beach. That beautiful beach is only 5 kilometers away from the center of Ulcinj. The Big beach is 12 km long and 60 m wide. The surface of the beach is 600.000 meters. The capacity of the beach is 150.000 swimmers. The Big beach in Ulcinj is favorite among tourists because of the petty sand, whose grain has a diameter of 0, 1 to 0, 5 mm and it resembles flour. That sand has very effective healing features, so lying on it is recommended first of all because of the problems with the extremities, sciatica, and spine and for curing of the fertility. Bellow the cope Djeran, at the very beginning of the big beach there is a marina better known as “Porta Milena” (“Harbor Milena”) a real gem for the eyes, deeply drawn into the land with numerous wooden cottages on the water which local people call Kalimera (“calimeras”).

Very interesting to the numerous swimmers is also the Small beach in Ulcinj or as it is otherwise called city beach. The length of the beach is 376 meters and the surface is 12.787 m. The pettiest, fine sand covers its sandy strand. The Little beach is situated in one of the most beautiful coves of Ulcinj, between the peninsulas Ratislava and Starogradska Tvrdjava (Old town fortress). The beach satisfies world norms of 5 m, free space per swimmer, so its capacity is 2.557 tourists. On the peninsula Ada Bojana that is paradise beautiful, there is a beach of a same name, exclusively reserved for nudists, which is 1.880 meters long. What is specific about this extremely attractive beach is its very location – as the island around which the beach is situated of a triangular shape, from two sided it is being splashed by the still River Bojana, and from the third side there is the sea, so at the same time there is a possibility of swimming both in salty and sweet water. Also, on the Small beach of Ulcinj the normative is respected, according to which the swimmers have to have 5 meters of free space, so the capacity of the beach is 12.880 guests.

Except for the adults, Ulcinj`s Big and Small beach and Ada Bojana, are extremely suitable for the children, because of the sandy shoal, which enables carefree swimming, but also sunbathing and playing on a long sandy shore.

As the coast of Ulcinj is one of the most RAZUDJEN sea shore with numerous bays, gulfs, islands, cliffs, crests, reefs, peninsulas, copes… the number of locations on which tourists can swim and sunbathe is very big.

The Ulcinj cove Valdanos, is a very unusual and interesting place, with 800 meters long and gravelly beach. The gravel soil ensued from the dismembering of the stony pebbles, spreads over 14.000 meters of useful surface. Right behind the beach Valdanos, you'll come up to two more beautiful and for tourists, very interesting beaches: Stari Ulcinj (The Old Ulcinj) and the beach Kruce. The Beach Old Ulcinj is 250 meters long and 20 meters wide. Its surface is 5.000 meters and the capacity is 1.000 swimmers. Gravelly beach Kruce is 600 meters long and 10 meters wide, and its surface is 6.000 meters. The capacity of the beach is 1.200 swimmers

When fro Ulcinj you go toward cave Valdanos, by turning right when exiting town, you can come to a number of gravelly – stony beaches. Those beaches are very popular with the tourists who crave for a secret and peaceful cozy nook in the natural ambience. Such beaches are: Basbuljuk 100 meters long, 19 meters wide and of the surface of 1.000 m. The capacity of this beach is 200 swimmers. The beach Maslinjak (Olive grove) takes only 50 meters of the useful surface and it is suitable for more intimate relaxation: (swimming in the sea cove and the rest in the shadows of 100 years old olive trees). Similar are the beaches: Opaljike -100 meters, Dzemilina plaza (Dzemila`s beach) – 150 meters, Ljama – 100 meters, Rejmet beach – 100 meters and the beach Crnogorsko guvno (Montenegrin hearth) in the length of 150 meters.

All of these beaches are much more approachable from the sea, so if you like an adventure you can direct yourself to them by the paddleboat, tourist taxi boat or barge.

Along the pine forest, between hotels “Albatros” (“Albatross”) and “Galeb” (“Gull”), on the space of the length of 1 km there is a line of smaller nicely arranged hotel beaches. Those are: Ludovigs, Paneuropa (Pan Europe), Skalice, Borici I (Small pine trees I), Borici II (Small pine trees II), Zenska plaza (Female beach), the beach of the hotel “Albatros” in which a part of the beach is arranged for the nudists. Below the Ulcinj`s old town fortress there is a beach called “Dvora Balsica” (“The Castle of Balsici”), and then the beaches Liman I and Liman II follow.

Especially is interesting the Female beach, which is situated between hotels “Albatros” and “Galeb”. The beach has sulfite medicinal water and springs which salutary influence on female illnesses and help curing of sterility with women. A great number of women from the country and abroad visit it. The beach is a nudist beach, and exclusively for women.

If one day of your holiday you wish to spend as a real adventurer, we suggest that you go with your own car or rent – a – car to river Bojana, where several kilometers away from the center of the town Sasko Lake is located. Sasko Lake is rich with fish, transparent lake water, and in the nearby there are the remains of the ancient or as it is today called “dead city” Svac. Also, on the very brim of the River Bojana, which in a strange way is connected with the lake and the sea, you'll see a line of gorgeous colorful pile – dwelling houses, which in the past were used by the nudists and other tourists for the rest and recreation. Also, if you decide to spend one afternoon on the shore of the River Bojana, you can enjoy talking to county fisherman about how and in what way they fish lake or sea fish. However, on the shore of the River Bojana, beside numerous authentic fishermen houses and attractive restaurants, in which you can try out the fresh sea fish or sea products, there is a lovely nudist beach, well known even on the tourist maps of the world.

If you're not to interested for the adventures and quests, and you wish to stay as much as possible on the sea, the recommendation is simple: the excursions from Ulcinj (from the city but also other beaches) to neighboring coast towns like: Bar, Petrovac, Budva, Kotor, or Herceg Novi are organized by almost all private owners of mini taxi barges or taxi boats, so enjoy!

Whether it is about adventurous or exclusively tourist vacation, which will keep you in Ulcinj only for several days, we wish that you have a nice time and enjoy in everything what Ulcinj truly is.

Lauren Bush Launches FEED Guatemala Bags at Lord & Taylor

It's always dicey to celebrate the launch of something meant to stop hunger with a food-filled party.

In the case of the FEED Guatemala Bag launch at Lord & Taylor's New York City's flagship, it just had to be done. And well done it was, with tropical-themed food, cocktails, music, and décor featuring images of Guatemala.

"It's a beautiful, graceful country," FEED co-founder Lauren Bush told StyleList. "Though Guatemala is so close to developed countries, it's really bad off. It's peaceful there now, but you see kids that look five and they're 10. It was a shocking education [for me] to see what hunger looks like."

Model turned activist Bush, along with Ellen Gustafson, created the FEED program, which aims to provide meals to malnourished and undernourished children around the world. Because Guatemala has the largest number of chronically malnourished children in Latin America, it's the area FEED is targeting with its newest, brightly colored totes ("3" bags) and clutches ("1 bags"), available exclusively at Lord & Taylor for $39 and $19, respectively. The "3" bag provides three children with a micronutrient powder supplement from UNICEF for one year; the "1" bag feeds one child.

And the bags themselves help out the local economy. "They're made in Guatemala by the women artisans in all different ikat fabrics," Bush said. "We wanted to take it full circle and support the women making the bags, as well as give back to UNICEF's work in Guatemala."

The Weekender: Wear Pastels for Easter!

Easter may mean dying eggs and going to church with your family. Or just a great excuse to gorge on marshmallow Peeps. Whatever your religious persuasion, this spring holiday presents the perfect opportunity to try out one of the season's biggest color trends: pastels. The spring runways replaced in-your-face neon and graphic colorblocking with subtle neutrals and Easter egg shades of ice blue, pale pink and lavender .

For this week's installment of The Weekender, we've put together an Easter brunch look, channeling spring's softer hues and topped it off with a grown-up take on an Easter basket. (One is never too old for a little bunny business.)

Style tips:

  • If you're worried about skewing too girly, opt for pastel pieces in menswear-inspired or body-skimming shapes. In this case we offset the light ruffles of this pale mandarin BCBG blouse with a boxier pearl gray TopShop vest (a go-to wardrobe piece for this season) and a curve-hugging James Perse skirt.
  • Another way to pull off softer hues is to pair them with pops of more intense color. Charlotte Ronson added a rocker edge to her pastel pieces with black accents and BCBG did the same with small hints of neon.

'Project Runway' Winner Seth Aaron Henderson on His 'Bad Ass' Collection

"Project Runway" viewers may have been a tad surprised when Seth Aaron Henderson knocked snarky Emilio Sosa and refined Mila Hermanovski off the catwalk to win the season 7 title.

Turns out Henderson, 38, was not.

The whimsical designer and stylist from Vancouver, WA, sewed up luxury and drama for the show's New York Fashion Week finale in February and won for his imaginative collection inspired by 1940s Russian and German military women.

StyeList caught up with Henderson for a private chat today during his post-victory media tour, and much like his clothes, he made a statement.

StyleList: Emilio looked shocked when you won. Were you as surprised as he was?
Seth Aaron Henderson: Not at all. Mila and Emilio showed clothing lines. I showed a runway collection. There's a big difference and I got that. That's why I won. My attitude was, it's New York Fashion Week -- bring it on or go home.

SL: You are a family guy with two teens. How will this win change your life?
SAH: I have a small label already, but now I am moving to go into full-scale production, and I am going to need to be in Los Angeles and New York more. That said, the kids are very settled in their lives, although my daughter [Megann] is all about heading for L.A. for the beach and sun. I think what we may do is rent a condo in L.A. and commute there when we have to be at the factory and check on production. They are really good kids, always on the honor roll. I don't want to mess with that.

SL: Your clothes are so edgy. I've always wondered who you imagine as the Seth Aaron woman?
SAH: She's like my clothes -- totally bad ass. She may be young, she may be in her forties. It totally doesn't matter. She is not afraid to be bold. That said, I can do clean. In my ready-to wear line, I have a clean aesthetic, not so many studs and things. But my couture costumer is looking for something that isn't out there. The average ready-to-wear line is some boxy bulls---. My customer cares about fit. She wants something innovative, and I am going to give her that.

SL: You sound very confident, but "Project Runway"'s track record of producing elite designers, such as Christian Siriano, has been spotty. How will you make this win work for you?
SAH: By doing what I did on the show and working my ass off. You can't sit back and wait for people to come knock on your door. You have to keep pounding on those doors and working just as hard as you did before. I'm already talking to investors and backers and doing everything I can to keep the momentum going. That's what Christian did. He went to events. He does media all the time. That's going to be my approach. He got it right.

SL:
If you had not won, which competitor would you have chosen to win?
SAH: Jay [Nicolas Sario]. He has become my best friend. I talk to him on the phone every day. But it's more than friendship that makes me say that. His clothes are amazing. The details are incredible. It was a mistake that the judges did not send him on to Fashion Week. He deserved it. He was consistent all season. The other finalists deserved it too, but they had more ups and downs.

SL: I'm surprised you didn't say Emilio, because you have plans to collaborate with him, don't you?
SAH: I was with him yesterday! We are already working on a show we want to do in New York. Not a Fashion Week-type show, but something very theatrical and cool. We are looking for supporters and investors and already talking about how we want it to go down. It will be very different from anything you've seen.

SL: The last time we talked was at the HP computer design brunch. You told me you were going to Tokyo because Michael Kors told you the Japanese were going to go nuts for your clothes.
SAH: Oh, no! I said that? Was that before or after the mimosas?

SL: Well, you did snatch my drink after I said I didn't want it!
SAH: At least I said something coherent. I do want to go to Tokyo. And I think it was Michael Kors who suggested it. I am going to make a major move into New York and Los Angeles and also see where I can go in Japan. I think they will get me.

SL: Which judge taught you the most?
SAH: Nina Garcia. She was always very accurate and thoughtful in her criticism. She didn't seem to have any agenda beyond giving her take on the clothes. And I always looked to Heidi [Klum] first when my clothes were coming down the runway. She's so Heidi adorable. If there was a gleam in her eye, you knew it was a good day.

SL: Your dad was a cartoonist -- did that creativity pave your path to "Project Runway"?
SAH: That and my mother. She loved to crochet and all that stuff. I was a real boy. I rolled around in the dirt and did all that stuff, but I was interested in clothes from an early age, like, two. I was very into my own clothes. They had to be clean and cool. I really never gave much thought to doing anything else, which is why this win was so exciting.

SL: My favorite moment of the season was Tim Gunn on the Henderson family trampoline. How did you get him to do it?
SAH: Papa Gunn on the tramp! Wasn't that the best? He told me he had never been on a trampoline or played Pictionary. So that's what we did. We took him out there, and he was pretty nervous. He kind of wobbled and fell over, but it was great. My kids loved it. And he said he had a really good time!

Bridal Market Fall 2010 Trends

Like Fashion Week, Bridal Fashion Week takes place twice a year – April and October. Thousands of gorgeous wedding gowns go down the runway from top designers including Vera Wang, Reem Acra, Amsale, Monique Lhuillier and Oscar de la Renta.

For autumnal brides, there are plenty of trends to choose from the Fall 2010 season. Little white (or mini) wedding dresses, detailed necklines, and amazing backs were among the most prominent.

Marchesa's little white dress (a.k.a. the LWD) was the hottest mini gown and featured a lace overlay. Designers are getting creative with gown necklines by adding tulle, beading, and ruffles to straps and sleeves, as witnessed at Christos designer Amsale's show. And women who are fixing for a Vera Wang dress will be ensconced in tiers of romantic ruffles.

Fashion's Night Out Stages Largest Runway Show In History

In case the promise of meeting designers and stylish celebs isn't enticing enough, today the organizers of Fashion's Night Out have announced plans for the biggest runway show in New York City history to whet the appetite of consumers.

The blockbuster event, which is slated to take place on September 7th at Lincoln Center, will feature over 200 of the industry's top models wearing clothes plucked straight from the racks based on the Fall 2010 trends selected by Vogue editors. (That's a lot of look!)

"We felt it is important for people see what wonderful fashion will be in stores at that moment," said Anna Wintour, the magazine's editor in chief. "This show will focus on the key trends we've identified for Fall so that shoppers will have plenty of inspiration to join the fun during Fashion's Night Out."

This summer, roughly 1,500 people will be able to purchase tickets to the runway extravaganza via the Lincoln Center box office, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting The New York City AIDS Fund.

"Making fashion and design accessible and exciting for everyone was one of our biggest goals when we first set out to launch Fashion's Night Out," said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta, whose company is one of the main partners in the FNO collaboration.

"This fashion show is yet another great opportunity to showcase the industry's exceptional talent to a broader audience of New Yorkers and visitors. On behalf of the City, I applaud Vogue's foresight and look forward to kicking-off a new NYC tradition at the new permanent location for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center."

The official shopping evening takes place just three days later on September 10th, but given the rash of recent announcements about FNO (i.e. a limited edition clothing line and a CBS special), we're sure style connoisseurs are already revving up those credit cards.

We wonder if this famous actress who edited the May issue of French Vogue will be part of the festivities.
